Dr. Karlen Barr

Dr. Barr is offering individual psychotherapy to adults and older teens (15 years of age and up).

Dr. Karlen Barr completed her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wollongong in Australia. She is a clinician and researcher with a particular interest in psychodynamic therapy.

Dr. Barr has extensive experience providing psychotherapy to individuals with various mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief, borderline personality disorder and trauma. She is interested in supporting people with personality disorder features, such as concerns with identity, relationships and emotion regulation. She is experienced in several therapeutic modalities, and primarily uses psychodynamic therapy. Dr. Barr is passionate about helping people understand themselves better and increasing connection in their relationships.

Dr. Barr is compassionate and non-judgemental and tailors her therapy based on individual needs. Her therapy approach is relational and informed by evidence-based theory. This type of therapy may explore a person's relationships, emotions, thoughts, behaviour, and repeating patterns to help them with their difficulties and to enhance well-being.

Dr. Barr is undergoing certification in Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP). She is also a researcher with over 15 publications in the areas of personality disorders and child and adolescent mental health. In addition, Dr. Barr has held registration as a psychologist in Australia for nearly a decade.
