Ms. Melany Allen

Associate | MSW | RSW (RCSW in process)

Ms. Allen is currently accepting youth (12–17), adults, families and groups for psychotherapy.

Ms. Melany Allen received her Master of Social Work from the University of Calgary and has over 10 years of experience working in mental health, addiction, and forensic settings. She has supported youth, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds who are navigating emotional, relational, and life challenges that impact their well-being and quality of life. Her approach is evidence-based and grounded in compassion, collaboration, and respect.

Ms. Allen has extensive experience working with individuals experiencing intense emotions, emotional numbness, anxiety, depression, shame, hypervigilance, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, and difficulties in relationships. These struggles may also be accompanied by self-harm, substance use, personality-related difficulties, physical health symptoms, or the lasting effects of trauma. She works collaboratively with clients to understand the patterns beneath their distress, strengthen emotional regulation and self-trust, and create more meaningful, connected lives.

She also specializes in supporting families navigating conflict, emotional dysregulation, and complex parent-youth relationships. Families often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure how to move forward. Ms. Allen creates a space where each family member feels heard and respected without shame, blame, or taking sides. Together, they work to better understand one another, strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and create healthier patterns of connection.

Ms. Allen has advanced training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and somatic approaches to trauma.

Clients often describe feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted before beginning therapy. Ms. Allen offers a calm, non-judgmental space where clients can make sense of their experiences, develop practical skills, and move toward greater stability, self-understanding, and hope. She is passionate about supporting people through life's most difficult moments and deeply respects the courage it takes to reach out for help. She welcomes clients of all backgrounds, including members of the queer community.

Outside of work, Ms. Allen enjoys spending time with her family, travelling to mountains and oceans, and fully embraces being a bit of a mental health nerd enthusiastically diving into another book, podcast, or course about mental health.
